A Stormy Thursday

Wow!!! What a day for weather. The day started out with fairly good weather on the way to work. That is, until I made it half-way there. The sky started getting darker, and I saw lightning up ahead of me. Then, the rain started. It was crazy. I had my wipers on high, and I had to slow down to about 40 mph just to stay on the road. After I got to work, the power went off in our shop. Unfortunately, it only stayed off for a few minutes. After about another half hour, the rain went away.

The rest of the work day went great. The weather was fine, and bearable. After work, though, was a different story. I stopped off in Dunreith to check out some sales at an antique store. I looked around for about 20 minutes, and found nothing. When I left the store, I was shocked. The sky was a scary, dark grey, and I could hear the thunder rumbling. I texted Carolyn, and she told me to be careful, there was a bad storm in New Castle. Great. Within 5 minutes, I was driving through the worst storm I can remember driving through in quite some time. Everybody was slowed down to a crawl, and some people were pulled off on the side of the road. After some hectic moments, I finally made it into town, and the rain finally subsided. Most of the roads were flooded, and I was told that power lines were down on Rd. 38. I was SO glad to be home. I took my shower and stayed in the rest of the night. Thank You God for Your protection. It could have been so much worse.

Boring Day

Today was kind of a boring day. I had to go back to work this morning, (joy, joy). It was nice being off for three days, even thought it seemed like one and a half. I hurt like an old man when I got up. My body got out of the habit of rising early. It doesn't take very long to get out of the habit, apparently. Work went ok. I was on a grinder today, and went over my rate for the day. I don't know where the energy came from, (well, I do, really), but I'm glad I had it. It made the day go by much faster.

After work, I came straight home and started mowing the yard. It was WAY too hot to mow, but it had to be done, and I didn't see anybody else volunteering to do it. After I got done mowing our yard, I went ahead and mowed the neighbor's yard. It needed it, and I did have the extra gas. After two yards, I was totally exhausted. I thought I was going to pass out. Fortunately, we have the central air conditioning on in the house. I came in and turned it to about 68 degrees. It felt nice. That, and a long shower, made me feel much better.

After supper, Adam and his girlfriend, Kara, brought us both a small Blizzard from Dairy Queen. It was an unexpected surprise. I haven't had Dairy Queen since last year sometime. What a way to end the day. Thank You God for a Wonderful Day.

Oh Salvation (a poem)

I had an okay day today. Work was ok, except for the heat and humidity. When I got home, I got cleaned up to go to church, but I still wasn't feeling great. Carolyn has had some kind of sickness for the last two or three days. I'm hoping I'm not catching it. But anyway, when Carolyn got home, she did not feel like doing anything, so we both skipped church tonight. I really like the Wednesday night class, and choir practice, but we just couldn't imagine sitting with a bunch of people, feeling like we did. I hate missing both of those tonight.

There was one good thing that happened today. God was giving me some words yesterday to a poem. I got the rest of them today. It's short, and I call it, Oh Salvation. Here it is:

Oh Salvation, to the masses
Dream of every child of faith
Blind to race, and social classes
Deaf to angry shouts of hate.

Salvation knows no earthly boundaries
Salvation is for one and all
It helps you see, what you're life can be
When your back is pressed, against the wall.

Oh Salvation, gift from above
So simple and so freely given
Salvation is, and always was
For God knows, our desire to sin.

Salvation is our ticket home
Salvation is man's only way
To see God, and His only Son
And to know forever there you'll stay.

Early Morning Barn

It was raining a little on the way to work this morning. It made for a gloomy ride to work. A day that I had volunteered to work. I see this barn everyday as I go to work, and always thought it would make a decent picture. With the early morning, cloudy sky, I thought this would be as good a time as any to take the picture. I Photoshopped it a little, to desaturate the colors. I wanted to give it a sepia-type look. I'm happy with it.

Sick and tired

Today was not my best day. I started the day with a stomach-ache, wondering if I was going to be able to go to work or not. I prayed alot, and went. Because I was sick, I didn't get much rest last night, so I spent the day in a haze, wandering around like a zombie. Work wasn't much fun either. I work in a foundry, making brake parts. We look for defects, and sort out the bad parts. We had TONS of them today. It seemed like there were more bad than good castings, although I'm sure there weren't. To sum it up, I spent my day sick, and tired, and frustrated. Yippee, what a day.

As a Christian, I know I can pray for God to take all this junk away, and He will, if He wants. I must have needed to go through all this, because He didn't take it away. What He DID do, was walk with me through it. I prayed for peace, and joy, and calmness, in my soul. And even though my body was sick, all was well with my soul. Our God is an awesome God. Before I knew it, it was time to go home. Now, I am going to chill out, in my pajamas, and try to get some rest tonight. Tomorrow is another day. Who knows what God has in store for us?

Beautiful day

What a beautiful day we had today. Temperatures near 70, light winds, lots of sun. What's not to like? Work was just that, work. After work, Carolyn and I went to the YMCA for a little over an hour, and had a good workout. At my age, if I can still breathe after a workout, it's a good workout. After having shoulder surgery during the winter months, and then hurting my back pushing a neighbor's van out of the snow in February, I am really slow at getting back into shape. I have to talk myself into every visit to the Y.

Unless the Lord changes things, we are planning on going to Calvary Baptist Church this coming Sunday. Since telling everyone about our situation, we have been overwhelmed with offers to attend different churches. We are going to try to make it to some, if not most, of these churches. It all depends on where the Lord leads us. It's His plan, His will, not ours.

Good day

Work went smoothly today. Not alot of drama, and the work wasn't too hard. Carolyn and I went to the YMCA tonight, for about an hour. We both had a good workout. I ran a mile or so on the treadmill, and other weight machines. Carolyn did over a mile on the bike, and did other weight training also. All in all, not a bad day. God is good, all the time.
